Oddschecker: Betfair re-opens gap at top
Exchange operator moves clear after last month's dead heat with bet365.
Betfair moved clear at the top of the Oddschecker Top 10 for May after crossing the 20% market share threshold for only the second time since the rankings were introduced.
Last month had seen the exchange operator record just 28 clicks more than bet365, but the highest month-on-month increase among the top 10 ranked bookmakers saw it open up a gap of 2.1% on its Stoke-based rival.
International football was one of the sports in which Betfair performed best, with market clicks recorded for pre-Euro 2012 friendlies boding well for the company’s performance throughout the tournament which began on 8 June. Betfair has made a notable marketing push around the European Championships launching mobile and Facebook apps.
The figures incorporate the first few days of activity for Betfair’s fixed-odds sportsbook, launched for UK customers late last month, and as well as international football the operator performed well on the ‘next manager’ markets, an area which Oddschecker explains “received a huge amount of activity” during the period.
SkyBet was the only other bookmaker in the top 10 to thrive in that category, but despite a strong performance in that particular market it remains in 10th place. Just one spot higher is Ladbrokes which has seen its share of market clicks drop by one third since November.
