Sportech inks Danske Spil pari-mutuel deal
US-based Sportech Racing secures first European deal with former Danish monopoly
Sportech Racing has signed a deal to provide Danske Spil with a pari-mutuel tote betting system, the brand’s first European partnership.
The former Danish monopoly will begin running Sportech Racing’s software in May 2014 as part of a five-year deal, with two optional extension periods.
While the solution will be provided from a Sportech data centre in Europe, services will be provided from Sportech Racing’s operations centre in New Jersey. Danske Spil will roll out the offering on its danskespil.dk site used by more than 600,000 consumers.
Sportech Racing managing director Andrew Gaughan said he was “proud and delighted” to secure the agreement, adding it was “particularly satisfying” that Danske Spil had “recognised the advantages that can be achieved through the investment that Sportech has made”.
“This contract perfectly exemplifies Sportech Racing’s strategy of leveraging our proven Quantum tote system “¦ and then providing day-to-day operations to a customer in Europe from our dedicated operations centre in the US,” he added.
Last month Sportech Racing, acquired by Sportech from Scientific Games in 2010, extended its deal to offer pari-mutuel betting at New Jersey’s Monmouth Park Racetrack.
Sportech has invested heavily in the US in recent months, with a number of significant deals agreed towards the end of last year. It acquired horseracing betting company eBet Online for up to £7.8m in December, one of the largest online B2B horserace wagering operators in the US. That same month Sportech won the contract to exclusively offer online wagering on all horseracing in Connecticut.
Last year Danske Spil selected OpenBet’s online sports betting platform to run its sportsbook offering, where it remains the market-leader after receiving an egaming licence in December 2011.
