Danske Spil to launch sports betting platform with OpenBet
New offering set to go live in spring 2013 " deal follows partnerships with Betware for mobile product and with bwin.party for casino and poker offering.
Danske Spil has selected OpenBet to provide it with its online sports betting platform.
Denmark’s state-controlled operator said it expects to have the new platform up and running in spring next year, having first announced the opening of the tender process in October.
Its sports betting manager Jens Nielsen told eGaming Review at the time taht the operator was looking for a partnership deal for a platform that will “make us competitive in the future”. “We need to move to a more modern platform and system than the one we currently have today,” Madsen said.
Since becoming one of 38 operators to receive a Danish gaming licence in December 2011 ahead of the market opening in January, Danske Spil has used its own in-house online sports betting platform which has been in place since 1994. The integration of OpenBet’s technology will give Danske Spil the ability to offer a far wider range of markets, including in-play.
Today’s news represents the latest technology partnership signed by Danske Spil, having announced the launch of its mobile offering in June – with mobile lotto, instant win games and sports betting – using Betware’s Smartphone Suite solution.
January saw the launch of its online poker and casino offering using software provided by bwin.party. In early 2010 PartyGaming signed a five-year B2B deal to provide the Danish state lottery with online poker and casino games in Denmark.
David Loveday, CEO of OpenBet, said: “This award by Danske Spil, against all other major operators in this field underlines our market-leading position in sports betting and is testament to our work with other lotteries and government-backed betting organisations. As we continue to build our global footprint, this is another building block for the international expansion of OpenBet and further verification of the probity and quality of our proposition.”
Jens Aaløse, CEO of Danske Licens Spil, said of the deal with OpenBet: “We have fared very well in the sports betting market since the introduction of the new Gaming Act in January this year”¦ With OpenBet’s platform, we are strengthening our sports games further with a significantly broader range of games and improved game features both before and during sports matches. It is our clear ambition, also on sports games, to be competitive at the highest level.”
