Microgaming enters lottery space with Genera deal
Genera Networks to provide Swedish lottery business Kombispel with bingo, scratchcard and lottery games from software provider.
Microgaming has made its first venture into the online lottery market through a deal which will see its bingo, scratchcard and lottery games provided to Kombispel by partner Genera Networks.
The agreement also marks Microgaming’s first deal in Sweden, where lottery operator Kombispel was the first partner to go live on Genera’s BingoFair bingo network last month. The software provider’s CEO Roger Raatgever said: “After the first month our content is already proving as popular with Swedish players as it is elsewhere.
“As well as providing us with a portal into the Swedish market, which we had not yet entered, we are excited to see how we can strengthen Genera Networks’ offering,” Raatgever added.
Genera Networks is an associate member of the World Lottery Association (WLA) and is the first member of the organisation with which Microgaming has signed an agreement.
Director Rickard Strömberg said: “When looking for a company to work with, Microgaming was the natural fit. Its content is world renowned and we are excited to see how Swedish players respond to this.”
There is no indication at present that any other products will be launched as part of the agreement, although Sweden’s minister for financial markets Peter Norman has pledged to propose a regulatory framework before the end of 2014.
Microgaming has moved into certain regulated markets in recent months for both poker and casino, with Prima Networks making progress in the Belgian and Spanish markets.
