Matchbook parts ways with sponsored poker pro Trickett
Betting exchange and top English money-earner end short-term deal by mutual consent.
Poker pro Sam Trickett, third on the all-time money list, has ended his sponsorship deal with betting exchange operator Matchbook by mutual consent.
Trickett (pictured) signed up with the operator ahead of this summer’s World Series of Poker (WSOP), during which he won more than US$10m in the ‘Big One for One Drop’ $1m buy-in charity tournament, having ended his previous deal with TitanPoker in May.
He also represented Matchbook during the last month’s Macau High Stakes Challenge, where he won just shy of $1m for a seventh-place finish.
The 26-year-old is also among several ambassadors of the International Stadiums Poker Tour, which is due to hold its inaugural event in London next year.
A documentary on Trickett’s ‘Big One for One Drop’ performance, in which Matchbook was involved, is set to be broadcast on an as-yet-unnamed British television channel later this year.
A spokesman for Matchbook said: “We have been honoured to have Sam as the face of the Matchbook Poker team in which his results were nothing short of phenomenal. Sam is a huge asset for any brand, and we fully expect him to secure a sponsorship deal with one of the biggest dedicated poker sites around.”
While the operator does not have a poker offering of its own, it has offered a series of betting markets on poker events including this year’s WSOP.
