Genera networks wins Postcode Lottery lawsuit
Solutions provider - along with Norsk Tipping - cleared of breaching Norwegian marketing law.
Egaming solutions provider Genera Networks and Norwegian lottery operator Norsk Tipping have won their joint legal dispute with the Postcode Lottery following allegations from the latter’s parent company regarding breaches of the Norwegian Marketing Act.
Nova Media – which operates the Postcode Lottery brand – had alleged that Norsk Tipping was in breach of Norwegian law for making a copy of the product with its Nabor offering.
However the court found that the two products “Are seen as so different that it cannot at all be seen as an imitation of an original product.”
Nabor, known in Norway as Nabolaget, is described by Genera Networks as “The only real geoposition lottery in the world,” and the company anticipates launching the offering with other national lotteries before the end of 2013.
It agreed a deal with Norsk Tipping in June 2011, and has since announced plans to provide Swedish lottery Kombispel with bingo, scratchcard and lottery games from Microgaming.
Jan Stocklassa, CEO of Genera Networks, said: “The decision in our and Norsk Tipping’s favour was expected by Genera and is clear in its wording.”
“Before making a final decision on how to proceed with Nabolaget, we will take the time to thoroughly review the court’s decision. Of course we want to launch the game as soon as everything is in order,” added Torbjørn Almlid, CEO & President of Norsk Tipping.
