Big Fish ends UK real-money partnership with Betable
Seattle-based games developer to focus on "social experiences" after removing cash games from its Big Fish Casino mobile app
Big Fish Games has ceased offering real-money mobile casino games in the UK via its Big Fish Casino app after terminating its deal with platform provider Betable.
The US-based social and casual games developer and publisher signed a deal with Betable in October 2012 to offer real-money slots games but has now taken the decision to increase its focus on the “social experience” of its games.
Carey DiJulio, general manager and vice-president of Big Fish Casino, told eGaming Review the firm had learned a lot from its real-money venture and would partner with Betable if it returned to RMG.
“But ultimately Big Fish Casino was a top-ten, top-grossing iOS app in 2013, according to Apple, due to Big Fish Casino providing great social gameplay,” DiJulio said. “Over 50% of our real-money customers also played the social games and can continue to play their favourite Big Fish Casino games for fun.
“Due to these factors, for now we want to continue to focus on great gameplay and social experiences that will make Big Fish Casino even better for our players,” she added.
Betable’s real-money platform can be added to freeplay games which do not need to apply for an operating licence as the product is regulated via its UK Gambling Commission licence.
Social gaming studios Bee Cave Games and Murka currently have real-money products available in the UK in partnership with Betable and the service provider remains positive of working with Big Fish again in the future.
“Big Fish’s experiment with real-money in the UK version of their Big Fish Casino product was a positive one for Big Fish and Betable,” Christopher Griffin, CEO of Betable, said. “We look forward to working with them on future projects as they hone their RMG strategy.”
“Our mission remains unchanged and our momentum is strong,” he added. “We are committed to providing game developers with the best possible technology and support to legally offer real-money play in their own games.”
