BetButler has licence revoked by Gambling Commission
GB regulator cites several breaches of licensing conditions two weeks after the operator ceased trading
The GB Gambling Commission has revoked sports betting firm BetButler’s licence and confirmed the operator had breached several licensing conditions.
A statement issued by the regulator this morning said it was not satisfied with the competence or financial circumstances BetButler, and that it had found it “unsuitable to carry out its licensed activities in a manner which is consistent with the licensing objectives”.
The revocation comes two weeks after BetButler announced that it had ceased trading ahead of a potential sale and urged all customers to forward queries to a new email address registered in gambling licensing jurisdiction of Curacao.
A statement issued by BetButler at the time insisted that the sale process would take “some days” to complete, however emails sent to customers from the new email address last week and seen by eGaming Review stated a new timeline of “several weeks”.
Concerns over BetButler’s ability to trade first became apparent earlier this year when the Gambling Commission said it was monitoring the firm in April after a number of customers complained over payment issues.
The matter escalated in June when the regulator said it was “considerably concerned” by issues customers were facing with BetButler, however the operator dismissed the payment issues as a misunderstanding between the company and its payment provider.
