Oddschecker: Grand National helps Betfair reclaim top spot
Operator topples bet365 by increasing horse racing market share by 10% with money back offer
Betfair reclaimed its position at the top of Oddschecker’s betting slip clicks table after the operator’s Grand National money-back-special helped it topple bet365 in April.
Bet365 ended Betfair’s year-long occupation at the top of Oddschecker’s chart in March, but Betfair’s offer of money back for all fallen horses at the flagship race helped the operator increase its horse race betting share by around 10%.
Betfair’s market share rose to 15.86%, only just trumping bet365’s 15.84% with BetVictor a distant third with 11.11%.
Paying six places for the race helped Bet Victor increase its lead over fourth place Paddy Power, which in turn cemented its position after producing a strong performance over the course of April’s Masters golf tournament.
Paddys gained the leading market share for golf despite Betfair recording a 55% increase in golf betting over the previous month’s performance, highlighting the importance of the sport’s four Majors.
The bottom six placed operators “ William Hill, Coral, Stan James, Sky Bet, Ladbrokes and Betfred “ were unchanged and market share remained largely stagnant, however Betfred’s place in the top 10 is now subject to a challenge from Sportingbet and BoyleSports.
With 2.61% and 2.52% market share respectively, Sportingbet and BoyleSports have gained ground on Betfred’s 2.97% and could soon enter the top 10 for the first time.
Meanwhile Oddschecker has added a new ‘Bet Log’ function to its website, allowing registered users to keep a record of all bets placed through the affiliate.
