Betfair extends lead in Oddschecker rankings

Betfair has cemented its position at the top of Oddschecker’s bet slip click rankings after a strong tennis performance in September helped the firm stretch its lead over nearest rival bet365.

The operator claimed 20.03% of all bet slip clicks during the month, an increase on the 19.14% it accumulated in August, while bet365 slipped back slightly from 17.86% to 17.59%.

Betfair saw growth in both fixed odds and exchange betting products across the month with its exchange increasing from 15.89% to 16.4% and sportsbook up from 3.25% to 3.63%, primarily assisted by an impressive US Open tennis tournament in which it claimed a quarter of all slip clicks.

A spokesperson for Betfair said the company was beginning to reap the benefits of combining the greater value available on the exchange with special offers made via its sportsbook.

“This combination is proving popular with customers and we are encouraged that this is reflected by Oddschecker’s data,” the spokesperson said.

Football was also a strong performer for Betfair with the operator finishing second with 14.1%, although some way behind market leader BetVictor who managed to increase its market share from 16.51% to 17.4%.

Despite its strong football performance, BetVictor’s overall share declined slightly from 11.24% to 11.19% although it still held on to third position ahead of Paddy Power (7.78%) and William Hill (7.64%) who both failed to make up any significant ground.

Ladbrokes was the biggest mover of the month after it recorded 6.32% of bet clicks, up from 5.64% in August and was enough to see it leapfrog Coral (6.2%) and Sky Bet (5.56%) to secure sixth position.

Ladbrokes’ rise up the rankings was boosted by its second position in American Football bet clicks following the return of NFL during the month. The Magic Sign amassed 10.8% of the market, slightly behind Paddy Power who emerged as market leader on 12.5%.

Stan James and Betfred finished ninth and tenth on 3.03% and 2.59% respectively.
