Betfair holds off bet365 in Oddschecker rankings
The operator's sportsbook makes it into the top 10 for the first time, taking combined share in excess of 19% for August
The first appearance of Betfair’s sportsbook in Oddschecker’s top 10 rankings helped the firm hold-off a strong bet365 challenge and retain top spot for August.
Betfair regained its table-topping status in July after producing a strong performance during the World Cup, however, the start of the domestic football season saw Stoke-based bet365 grab a 17.86% share of total click-throughs during August.
But while the share held by Betfair’s exchange slipped by 1.87 percentage points to 15.89%, the operator’s sportsbook replaced Betfred in the top 10 with a 3.25% share, which took Betfair’s overall share of the market to 19.14%.
Oddschecker noted that Betfair’s fixed-odds product had been growing month-on-month for the last half-year, boosted by price enhancements on major sporting events.
Elsewhere, BetVictor cemented its third placed position after its overall market share increased by 1.54% to 11.24%, largely down to its 16.51% share of UK football betting markets, while Ladbrokes (5.64%) also gained ground on Sky Bet, coming to within 0.18% of taking seventh place.
Sky Bet’s (5.82%) share was boosted by a market-leading 18% of the football specials market, assisted by the operator’s affiliation with Sky Sports News and its coverage of transfer deadline day.
Paddy Power however saw its share of the market slip marginally in comparison to July’s performance, falling to 7.76% of the market but remained ahead of William Hill (7.32%) in fourth place.
