DraftKings under legal scrutiny in home state of Boston
State Attorney General Maura Healey confirms she is investigating the legal status of DraftKings and daily fantasy sports in Boston
Daily fantasy sports operator (DFS) DraftKings will be subject to a legal review in its home state of Boston after Attorney General Maura Healey confirmed she was investigating the firm. [private]
When asked about DraftKings, Healey told the State House News Service she was looking into the legal foundations from which the firm was running its business.
âThe point is this: This is a new industry. Itâs something that weâre reviewing, and weâll learn more about it,â Healey told the News Service.
While the Attorney General would not have the power to shut down DraftKings or other DFS operators in the state, she could issue an advisory bulletin.
Her opinion would not be legally binding, but could have serious repercussions for DraftKings and the DFS industry, which has come under intense legal scrutiny of late.
In Nevada, the gaming regulator is currently investigating how DFS sits within state gaming law, and earlier this week New Jersey Rep. Frank Pallone sent a letter to Congress calling for a review into the âmurkyâ legal status of the sector.
