PokerStars coalition launches California campaign
Website invites Golden State residents to âjoinâ coalition to bring online poker to California
A PokerStars-led coalition has ramped up its charm offensive in California in an effort to get online poker legislation across the line in the state this year.
The coalition, which includes the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and three of the stateâs largest card rooms, has launched a website promoting the benefits of legal online poker in the Golden State.
âToday, millions of California poker players cannot play the game we love online, while other states and dozens of countries have authorized iPoker,â the websiteâs homepage reads.
âAuthorizing a well-regulated iPoker market in California will protect the stateâs poker-playing consumers, support local business, and generate both jobs and revenue in California.â
It then lists 10 reasons why the coalition wants online poker to be legalized in the state.
The points include job creation, the protection of minors, transparency and the safe keeping of poker playersâ funds.
The site also invites California residents to join the coalition to help âpass online poker legislation this yearâ.
Last month the group revealed plans to host a demonstration of its product offering to lawmakers, lobbyists and residents of the state.
PokerStars said it wanted âto give people a better idea of what exactly online poker looks likeâ by hosting an online demonstration to display the consumer protections in place.
