âZombieâ app increase highlights discovery problem
New report from app analytics firm adjust shows 80% of apps are failing to feature in app store top lists
Almost 80% of apps in Appleâs app store are âzombieâ apps that fail to rank in any of the storeâs top lists with app discovery becoming an increasing problem for developers, according to analytics firm adjust.
Data compiled by adjust shows that the number of so-called âzombie appsâ, which do not noticeably rank, has increased to 79.6% in June 2014 compared to 70.4% in June 2013.
Zombie apps are those that fail to feature in any one of the app storeâs39,171 top lists on two out of three days over the course of one calendar month.
And the report predicted this was set to increase further with more than 60,000 new apps added to the store each month, and the total number of apps hosted in Appleâs app store now surpassing 1.25 million.
âThe report that weâve released today shows the development of the App Store and highlights the critical need for marketers to engage key audiences for ensuring the longevity and visibility of their app,â Christian Henschel, CEO and co-founder of adjust, said.
