William Hill to open tech-focussed London office
New Shoreditch-based location will see recruitment of mobile and tech talent
UK bookmaker William Hill is preparing to open a new office in East London to aid the growth of the company’s online business.
A spokesperson for William Hill confirmed the plans for a new office in the capital’s digital hub of Shoreditch to eGaming Review but said there was no date for its official opening at the current time.
The soon-to-be opened office will be the operator’s second London-based operation along with its headquarters in Wood Green, and comes following a significant investment in mobile from the operator.
According to the company’s financial results for the three months ended 30 September, mobile sportsbook turnover grew 115%, accounting for 41% of total sportsbook turnover. Overall online net revenue was 2% lower during the 13-week period but remained up 11% for the year-to-date.
HR director David Russell told HR Magazine the expansion was necessary for the operator to keep up with increased market competition.
“It wasn’t popular with some as there is a high cost attached,” Russell said. “But there are a lot of challenges around finding the mobile and technology skills we need.”
News of the Shoreditch office comes after William Hill Australia CEO Michael Sullivan revealed earlier this week that William Hill had reversed its decision to ditch the recently acquired Sportingbet and Centrebet brands.
