William Hill launches football podcast hosted by YouTube stars
Stripped to explore the culture of football with celebrity guests as Hills looks to tap into new demographic
William Hill has launched a new football podcast to be hosted by YouTube stars Specs Gonzalez and David Vujanic as it looks to engage a “new generation of fans”. Stripped will be a weekly podcast featuring a celebrity guest who joins the pair to discuss key events in the world of football, iconic moments and the wider culture around the sport. Each episode will be guided by the guest’s chosen vintage shirt, such as their first or their favourite from the past. Gonzalez and Vujanic will welcome former and current players, as well as actors and musicians. The podcast launched on 4 August and is available across YouTube and major podcast platforms. The podcast was developed in partnership with Wavemaker and Platform Media. Liam McKee, William Hill director of media, sponsorships and UK creative, said there was a need to explore options outside the traditional form of football media when launching Stripped. McKee said: “We needed a campaign that not only captured their attention but proves to football fans – old and new – that we have a genuine passion for the beautiful game and the culture surrounding it. “This was not an easy task given that a traditional approach would not work for this particular audience. Our Stripped podcast was the ideal solution, it gives us the ability to use the trusted relationships of both hosts and talent to connect with some of the most diehard fans in the sport,” he added. Saj Nazir, Wavemaker head of content, commented: “The Stripped podcast will embed William Hill into the wider culture and world surrounding the beautiful game. Thus, helping the brand to connect with its target audience – the football fan community – and become a vital part of their weekly football fix routine.”
