William Hill hails Aus Open success following triple-digit growth
Operator says partnership with the Grand Slam tournament has gone from “strength-to-strength” as turnover soars 145%
William Hill has hailed the “overwhelming success” of its controversial partnership with the Australian Open after reporting a 145% year-on-year increase in turnover during the tournament.
According to figures released by the operator today, Hills’ turnover for the first two days of the tournament was up 145% compared to the same period last year, while new customer acquisitions also increased 96%.
The year-on-year growth comes despite a federal government crackdown on online in-play betting, while William Hill also recently lost its on-court sponsorship of the Grand Slam event.
The London-listed operator’s branding no longer appears courtside due to heightened public criticism of the deal amid a number of match-fixing scandals in the sport, one of which came to light during last year’s tournament.
“We have made changes to our agreement based on feedback from 2016 however these haven’t impacted performance,” Warren Hebard, William Hill Australia’s chief marketing officer, said.
“In fact, we are experiencing incredible year on year uplift across all our key success criteria,” he added.
William Hill was never specifically implicated in any match-fixing investigation.
Earlier this week, EGR Intel reported that the operator’s Australia-facing business had relaunched its Chase the Ace offer for a second consecutive year following an “amazing 2016”.
The company also recently launched a new TV advert to coincide with the Australian Open, highlighting the speed of the company’s online and mobile betting products.
