Weekend Review: Bookies flying high after Eagles swoop for Super Bowl

The bookies were left cheering a stunning Super Bowl victory for the Philadelphia Eagles last night as they triumphed 41-33 over the New England Patriots.

The Eagles were led by quarterback Nick Foles and produced a superb offensive display to deny the Patriots a record-equalling sixth Super Bowl.

Kindred Group’s Ali Gill said: “The Eagles’ first ever Super Bowl win over the supreme Patriots was a result which the traders were definitely cheering for and it left us ahead of the punters.”

It was a similar story for Ladbrokes, where Jessica Bridge told EGR: “Both the Eagles and Ladbrokes are flying high after Super Bowl LII.

“Although they were a loser on the night for the money line, Eagles were friendless throughout the season so we were cheering them on as a Patriots win would have been a bad result,” she added.

BetVictor’s Jack Milner said: It would have been disaster if the Patriots won but in the end the Eagles’ 41-33 success in Minnesota saw punters profit with backers of both yardage and points overs emphatically collecting.”

In the Premier League, the most surprising result was Manchester City’s draw with Burnley, which gave Kindred its biggest win and biggest margin of the weekend.

Gill said: “Three draws in the round, including Liverpool’s thriller with Spurs left us miles ahead with only Bournemouth’s home win over Stoke going the way of the punters.”

Steve Freeth revealed a losing weekend for bet365 on both the golf and six nations. “The very well backed England obliged in Italy, but they made punters sweat,” he said.

“The line moved from its original quote of -18 to -24 on the off as late tries sealed success for the best-backed side of the opening weekend in the Six Nations.”
