Webis Holdings managing director departs
Outgoing MD Garry Knowles to be replaced by president of WatchandWager.com Ed Comins
Webis Holdings’ long-serving group managing director Garry Knowles will leave the online gambling firm this week after nearly 10 years at the helm, eGaming Review has learned.
Knowles will officially vacate the role tomorrow (30 April) and will be replaced by group director and president of the firm’s WatchandWager.com brand Ed Comins.
The outgoing MD previously held roles at William Hill and MGM Mirage Online before joining the now defunct betinternet.com as sportsbook director in 2003 and rising to MD of parent company Webis Holdings in January 2006.
Knowles told eGaming Review this morning he planned to take time off before assessing new industry opportunities.
“Working in a 24/7 business for over 10 years eventually takes it out of you so I plan to take some time off and enjoy some of the time that’s been absorbed by the business,” Knowles said.
His replacement Ed Comins became president of the firm’s pari-mutuel betting business WatchandWager.com in February 2006 and has also served on the Webis Holdings board of directors.
He takes up the new role after the operator recently announced a decision in March to close its fixed-odds sports betting arm betinternet.com after 15 years in operation due to “onerous” regulatory burdens introduced in core Asian markets.
