Veikkaus warns of 200 potential redundancies from streamlining process

Veikkaus is in the process of streamlining and modernising its business model, which could result in up to 200 employees being made redundant. The Finnish monopoly operator said its channels and sales division had changed significantly in recent years and had experienced a fall in business volumes. In light of this fact, Veikkaus said it was planning to reduce the size of its headcount in order to make its operations more efficient. The operator will launch negotiations with staff on 16 August, which could mean up to 200 members of staff are laid off. In total, the negotiations concern 830 Veikkaus employees, while 330 could see the terms of their employment fundamentally altered. Veikkaus said that despite the job cuts it hoped it would be able to support affected employees by transitioning them into new roles at other companies. The operator highlighted the Casino Tampere as an example, which is due to open in December 2021 and currently has 50 job openings. Jari Heino, Veikkaus SVP of channels and sales, said: “Our future will be successful if we can adjust our operations to meet the demands of the operating environment while offering the players a responsible, high-quality customer experience. “Our goal is to secure the continuity of Veikkaus’ operations and to make sure that we continue to be a dynamic, responsible, modern company that strengthens the wellbeing of Finns,” he added.
