UNIBET HAS WON the European Sports Betting Operator of Year award at this year’s EGR Awards, successfully defending the title it won last year.
The Swedish operator beat off fierce competition in the form of Betclick, Betsson, Bwin and Sportingbet to scoop the coveted trophy, with judges recognising Unibet’s continued development of its product range and embrace of new technology for live betting.
Collecting the award last night at a gala dinner and awards ceremony at London’s Old Billingsgate Market, chief executive Petter Nylander said: “Sportsbetting is our key and we are always trying to expand our product, and it’s great to be recognised for our achievements.”
The Swedish operator’s in-play offering and substantial re-engineering of its sports book to improve its product offering in the last 12 months proved instrumental in Unibet defending its European sports betting crown.
Also shortlisted was Betclick, a major player in its home market of France which has pushed on in Italy, Spain and Portugal, and also further afield in central and eastern Europe, making Betclick a strong contender in a strong field.
Swedish betting and gaming operator Betsson, which also won Socially Responsible Operator Of The Year, made the final five for the European Sports award due to its continued upward path of the past two years, based on a wide range of solid products and strong growth.
Bwin, Operator of the Year 2009 and the major sports betting operator in Europe, was shortlisted for continuing to lead the way in scale and reach. The company is also one of the key players when it comes to lobbying for fair and open access to regulated markets.
Sportingbet also made the final cut based on an excellent past 12 months, delivering impressive margins and growing the business 30%, with a particularly strong performance from its in-running offer.
