Unibet extends free site blocking software access
Operator expands deal with Betfilter to give Stan James and iGame problem gamblers option to block all egaming sites
Unibet will give problem gamblers free access to its gambling website blocking software across all the Group’s brands as part of plans to ramp up its player protection capabilities.
The Stockholm-listed firm recently partnered with anti-gambling software company Betfilter to enable Unibet customers with a gambling problem to block themselves from all gambling operators.
Today’s announcement will see the original deal with Betfilter expanded to include customers of its recently acquired Stan James and iGame assets.
“In Unibet Group we are passionate about doing the right things for our customers and at the heart of this is player protection,” Henrik Tj?rnstr?m (pictured), the operator’s chief executive, said.
“That is why we take a proactive approach to player safety promoting responsible gaming in a safe, secure and supportive environment. Providing Betfilter free to customers who need this support is key to building a sustainable business.”
As part of the deal, Unibet will pay the Betfilter licensing cost for customers known to have a gambling problem, who were previously required to pay approximately ?49 per year to use the software.
The operator will also be offering free Betfilter licences to gambling addiction treatment centres, such as the UK’s Breakeven, to help people currently undergoing therapy.
“Self-exclusion may not be the whole solution for somebody concerned about their gambling, but it can certainly help if someone recognises that gambling may be a problem and we believe many of our counselling clients will benefit from this additional support,” Dirk Hansen, CEO of GamCare, said.
