UKGC looks to steady ship with 18-month CEO appointment
Birmingham-based UK regulator kicks off recruitment process with fixed-term contract job ad
The new chief executive of the Gambling Commission (UKGC) will be appointed on an 18-month fixed term contract.
In a newly posted job advert, the UKGC revealed its preference for someone to make an immediate start but would be flexible for the right candidate between now and August 2021.
The job description confirmed the successful candidate would be required to work from its headquarters in Birmingham and would be paid a salary of up to £150,000 per annum.
“You will join us at an important time as we seek to transform our own organisation, whilst continuing to pursue widespread improvements in protection for consumers,” the ad states.
The UKGC highlighted the forthcoming Gambling Act 2005 review and the fourth National Lottery licence tender as key areas for the new CEO to be involved with immediately.
“You will need to draw on the full range of your experience and relationship-building capability to be immediately effective, providing coherent and inspiring leadership to our own people whilst building strong relationships with our stakeholders in DCMS, Whitehall and industry to maximise support and cooperation,” the UKGC explained.
The ad warns this is a “highly visible, scrutinised role”.
The closing date for applications is 9 May with interviews expected to conclude by the end of April.
UKGC deputy CEO Sarah Gardner and COO Sally Jones have managed the business in the interim.
In tandem with recruiting for a new CEO, the UKGC is seeking a new chairman to replace the outgoing Bill Moyes, who is due to step down this year.
In a job ad for the role seen by EGR, experience of leading an organisation at a time of “significant scrutiny” is highlighted as a key priority for any new appointment.
Final interviews for the chairman position are to begin on 21 June. The successful applicant will receive up to £55,000 a year.
