GB regulator delays appointment of new CEO
Outgoing Jenny Williams will remain until at least September as General Election interrupts recruitment plans
Great Britain’s Gambling Commission will not name a successor to outgoing chief exec Jenny Williams until after the country’s General Election at the earliest, despite aiming to do so prior to the May vote.
The regulator announced it had begun the search for Williams’ successor last September and eGaming Review understands the organisation has identified a preferred candidate.
However due to the protracted timescale related to making government-related public announcements, the recruitment process is now on hold until after the 7 May General Election.
The regulator hopes to complete the process for the new CEO to start in September.
Williams has agreed to remain in her role until that point and is expected to continue on a part-time basis to support her successor and the Commission in key areas such as remote gambling regulation.
Williams, who became the chief executive of the Gaming Board – now the Gambling Commission – in 2004, sees her statutory term as a commissioner end in September.
In the past year she has overseen the implementation of Britain’s new Gambling (Advertising and Licensing) Bill, including a shift to a point of consumption-based tax regime, which came into law in December.
