UK government appoints new gambling commissioners
Alison Hastings, Trevor Pearce CBE and Jonathan Scott will join the Gambling Commission's Board of Commissioners from 1 May
Great Britain’s Gambling Commission will add three new Commissioners to its board on 1 May, the Secretary of State for the Department of Culture Media and Sport announced yesterday afternoon.
Culture Secretary Sajid Javid MP has appointed Alison Hastings and Trevor Pearce CBE for a period of four years and Jonathan Scott for a duration of five years.
The new names will increase the number of Gambling Commission board members to 11 taking into account the planned departures of Robert Foster and Rachel Lampard in the next few months.
Of the three new commissioners it is Scott, a retiring senior partner and chair at international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills, who comes with the most relevant gaming experience having advised on mergers within the industry, as well as governance and regulation.
Hastings is a non-executive director and vice president of the British Board of Film Classification, a Press Complaints Commissioner, a board member of Durham University and until recently the BBC Trustee for England.
Pearce, who received his CBE in the 2014 New Year’s Honours list, is currently the director of special investigations at the National Crime Agency (NCA) while he previously held the title of director of investigations and economic crime at the NCA.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have attracted such high calibre people to join the Board,” Philip Graf, Gambling Commission chairman, said.
The trio join the regulator’s current line-up of commissioners which includes Graf and chief executive Jenny Williams, who last year announced she would stand down from her role in September.
The Gambling Commission along with the UK government and recruitment firm Gatenby Sanderson are believed to be closing in on a successor for Williams with an appointment expected to be made in the next couple of months.
