UK Gambling Commission suspends Goldchip’s licence
Regulator notes suspicions of AML and social responsibility failures in latest ruling
The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has suspended the operating licence of Goldchip.
There were no specific details as to why the licence has been suspended, but the regulator did note there were suspected social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings associated with the operator.
This suspension comes in accordance with section 118 (2) of the Act, which states that the regulator can suspend a licence while investigating, with the suspension taking effect immediately.
When visiting Goldchip’s website, it displays a message informing customers of the suspension by the UKGC and information on how to contact the firm.
The statement read: “Goldchip are working with the UK Gambling Commission to resolve this situation as soon as possible.
“Goldchip are working with the UK Gambling Commission to resolve this situation as soon as possible.”
Players can still withdraw money from their accounts by contacting the casino’s customer support either by phone or by email.
The UKGC said it expected the operator to treat its customers “fairly and keeping them fully informed of any developments” during the course of the suspension.
Goldchip had held a sports betting licence from the UKGC since 1 January 2009.
This suspension comes in the wake of the UKGC issuing two fines to white label providers, with those fines totalling £675,000 for anti-money laundering and social responsibility failings.
Jumpman Gaming was fined £500,000, and Progress Play was fined £175,718. Progress Play also had to pay £12,466.35 to cover the cost of the UKGC’s investigation.
