Touch ID to form part of Betfair mobile push
Operator reveals plans to introduce 30 additional features to its mobile portfolio this financial year Â
Betfair has revealed it is developing Touch ID log in capabilities for its mobile products as part of an extensive product roadmap the operator has scheduled to complete this financial year.
Speaking to analysts and investors yesterday Swati Lay, director of security at Betfair, revealed the firm is developing Touch ID as the next step of its security measures having previously rolled out a four-digit PIN for identification on mobile.
Sky Betting & Gaming claimed an industry first when it rolled out Touch ID functionality last month and eGR Mobile Intelligence understands a number of other operators are also looking into using the Apple technology.
Touch ID is to become one of 52 new features Betfair is looking to roll out to its mobile product portfolio this financial year – 22 of which have already been released.
Product director Sylvie McDermott said that since May 2013 Betfair had rolled out more updates to its mobile sportsbook and exchange products than a number of market rivals, including Sky Bet, William Hill and Paddy Power, and that the operator had planned to release 20 more features in FY15 than it did last year.
Betfair has prioritised its mobile channel and most recently finalised the roll-out of single sign-on across its suite of mobile apps ahead of a wide-ranging overhaul of its exchange app last month.
While no information relating to its mobile revenues was disclosed during yesterdayâs trading update, Betfair recorded a 162% year-on-year increase in Q1 mobile revenues and derived 70% of total sportsbook revenues from the platform throughout the period.
