Tivoli closes international online casino
Firm plans to refocus resources on expanding Danish market
Danish-listed company Tivoli A/S has announced plans to shutter its international online casino after the product failed to live up to the firm’s expectations.
The company, which derives most of its revenue from Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens amusement park, said it will refocus its efforts on the Denmark-facing version of its online casino.
The international-facing Tivolicasino.com was launched in 2014 on the Play’n GO platform, two years after the Danish version, and has games supplied by the likes of NetEnt, Microgaming and NYX Gaming.
“Tivoli rapidly built up a significant market position for its Danish online casino,” Elisabeth Milton Hemmingsen, Tivoli commercial director, said. “It was therefore natural to attempt to extend this Danish success story by establishing an international online casino. However, Tivoli’s international online casino has not achieved the desired results.
“For instance, the deficit has been larger than expected since the start, and consequently, the international casino will now be closed and instead the resources will be focused on the Danish online casino,” she explained.
The site is currently live in a number of international markets, including Britain after gaining a licence from the Gambling Commission in 2014.
As of January 2016, gaming companies held 15 licences for betting in Denmark and 26 licences for online casino.
Danish online casino revenues for the 12 months to 31 December reached ?140.4m, up 25% year-on-year.
