The Jockey Club names new chief corporate affairs officer
Industry newcomer Stuart Williamson replaces outgoing Scott Bowers who is stepping away to launch advisory firm
The Jockey Club has made a C-level hire with the appointment of Stuart Williamson as chief corporate affairs officer.
He will replace Scott Bowers, who is leaving the role after 12 years to launch Spectacle Partners, a sport and entertainment advisory company.
Williamson, who will be responsible for all internal and external communications as well as reputation management, will take up the role on 26th September and will report directly to CEO Nevin Truesdale.
He joins the Jockey Club after 13 years at Nationwide Building Society, where he started as senior media relations manager before working his way up to director of communications, a role he held for close to four years.
Before this, Williamson was an account director for PR firm Grayling from April 2005 to September 2009.
His first role with Montpellier Marketing Communications Group saw Williamson cross paths with the Jockey club as he supported the business’ Cheltenham Racecourse.
Williamson said: “ I’m excited to be joining Nevin and the team. It’s a pivotal time for the horseracing industry, and I’m committed to building on Scott and the team’s great work and contributing to a thriving sport for the benefit of all.”
Truesdale added: “Stuart is clearly a hugely talented corporate affairs and communications professional, and we are very excited he will be joining our team following a highly competitive process.
“His experience at Nationwide, in particular, will be valuable in helping to advise the Jockey Club’s executive and board on strategic decision making that helps us to live up to our mission to act for the long-term benefit of British racing, as well as how to communicate to the wide variety of audiences who matter to us.”
