Svenska Spel promotes new IT director
Swedish operator Svenska Spel has appointed the VP of its B2B casino and betting arm, Mikael Franzén, as group IT director to oversee its technology movements.
Franzén will take over from Jörgen Olofsson, who oversaw the operator’s biggest back-end transition when the market regulated in January.
He has been part of the management team since 2018, having most recently been responsible for Svenska Spel’s B2B pools betting operation.

Franzén is promoted to IT director from VP sports and casino for Svenska Spel’s B2B arm
Franzén joined the industry in 1993 working within the lottery sector. He has since held various roles at Svenska Spel, including VP IT and VP internet and mobile.
Group CEO Patrik Hofbauer said: “I am also proud that we have found an internal candidate, which is proof that we have solid competence within the group.
“Mikael’s experience of both Svenska Spel and the gaming industry will be valuable in the continued development of our business.”
Franzén added: “I hope to contribute [to the role] with my experience of the gaming business and my insights into what is needed to create competitiveness in an increasingly digitalised and fast-paced gaming market.”
Olofsson leaves the company to join Nordic digital business and consumer information service Asiakastieto Group as its CIO.
In Q1 Svenska Spel reported a 21% increase in mobile gaming revenues and 14% increase in overall online revenues. Although, net revenue fell 6% on high tax costs.
