Svenska Spel lends grassroots support to Swedish esports industry
Operator hopes to develop future esports talent in collaboration with Esportshall and Elitserien
Svenska Spel has launched a collaborative effort to help support and develop grassroots esports in Sweden.
The operator has partnered with Esportshall and Elitserien in a move which will see the creation of several new tournaments for rookie players in the country.
Esportshall is Sweden’s first municipally supported esports training facility and has received support from tech giants including Lenovo and Intel.
The facility is designed to transfer skills from elite esports stars to their grassroots counterparts, including information on healthy diets and maintaining physical activity and concentration levels.
The Elitserien, which is the top esports division in the country, will also lend its support to the project.
Several grassroots tournaments will be held at the venue this autumn for budding esports players just starting out in their careers.
Jimmy Sandberg, Svenska Spel sponsorship project manager, said: “Svenska Spel wants to be involved in developing Swedish esports, from grassroots to elite.
“We are therefore very happy to be able to participate and enable these grassroots cups at Esportshall together with the Elite Series.
“To give the younger players a clear context to practice esports, we believe is important going forward for Swedish esports,” he added.
