Spain sets out terms of licensing extension for online operators
DGOJ to allow firms with expiring licences to submit renewal paperwork early as initial 10-year term draws to a close
Spain’s gambling regulator (DGOJ) will allow operators with expiring licences to submit their renewal applications early to avoid processing delays.
Under the current Spanish licensing system which has been in effect since 2011, operators were awarded a 10-year operating term and a large proportion of those licences are due to expire later this year.
To avoid operators potentially operating in the country without a valid licence, the DGOJ has confirmed any operator in the final year of its term may submit extension paperwork at least four months in advance of its expiration date.
Operators with licences for multiple verticals can submit a single extension application digitally to the DGOJ.
Renewing firms must have their application signed by a legal representative and must provide evidence of compliance throughout the term of the previous licence and demonstrate that all taxes have been paid.
Supporting evidence for payment of licence fees must also be provided. These fees include a €38,000 (£33,000) technical reporting fee, a €2,500 registration fee for each licence and a separate €10,000 fee for each licence successfully granted.
The DGOJ has committed to processing all applications within three months of receipt, with further required documentation requested within 10 days of an application being received.
Any licence extension granted will run for a commensurate 10-year period.
