Smarkets to incorporate offline browsing in latest app
Exchange operator plots a new round of app upgrades ahead of the World Cup
Smarkets is developing an offline feature for its mobile app as the exchange betting operator continues to improve its mobile product ahead of the World Cup.
The firm rolled out new iOS and Android apps ahead of Cheltenham last month and told EGR more upgrades were on the way.
Smarkets software engineer, Tim Gee, said the firm was working hard to make functions on the app much faster and enable users to browse through static content when disconnected from WiFi and mobile data.
“In the future, as we have more graphs, you’ll be able to navigate around what’s interesting. Although you won’t be able to see the latest prices you’ll still be able to have quite an enjoyable experience,” Gee said.
“There are a lot of things we look at with a lot of effort but there won’t be much public fanfare about.”
The operator has been pushing its odds history graphs and percentages as a key way to engage “non-bettors”.
Gee also said the development team was exploring other areas like CPUs so users can save battery power when operating the app.
Touch ID functionality and push notifications will also be added to an upcoming version of product which is likely to be launched ahead of the World Cup.
