Sky Bet unveils new fantasy sports products
The operator looks to build on the success of Soccer Saturday Super 6 with Six-a-Side and Racing Pick 6 mobile
Sky Betting & Gaming (SB&G) has continued its roll-out of softer, acquisition-focused gaming products with the launch of two new fantasy sports apps for football and horseracing.
The Leeds-based operator released Sky Sports Fantasy Six-a-Side and Channel 4 Racing Pick 6 last month, adding to a portfolio of similar games which include the popular Soccer Saturday Super 6.
Six-a-Side challenges players to pick a team of six players featured in the Sky Sports Super Sunday match with the individual accumulating the most points winning a ?10,000 weekly prize.
SB&G’s free-to-play Channel 4 Racing Pick 6 app follows a similar format to Super 6, although to win the ?10,000 top prize players must pick all six winning horses in races screened by the TV station, with a ?1,000 consolation prize for the closest entry.
Players can login to both apps using their account details for any of the SB&G brands, as well as login details from Super 6 and Fantasy Football.
Richard Flint, SB&G chief executive, likened the game to daily fantasy sports and said he was confident the products would prove to be valuable acquisition tools.
“It’s more about adding to the Sky Sports experience and acquiring customers and getting usage from existing customers for Sky Bet,” Flint said.
“The links to Sky Bet are subtle but it does use the same account login as Sky Bet; both the products have started really well as a good source of acquisition,” he added.
Sky Sports Six-a-Side is currently the number one free sports app in the UK, while the Sky Bet app is also just behind in second-place.
News of the fantasy sports products comes after the operator today reported a 36% year-on-year rise in full-year revenues as investment in the operator’s technology and mobile platforms continues to pay-off.
