Sky Bet kicks-off ?1.5m graduate recruitment drive
The Leeds-based firm looks to tap into new tech talent with the launch of its graduate software academy
Sky Betting & Gaming (SB&G) today launched a new graduate software academy with the operator promising to invest ?1.5m into developing new technology talent.
The Leeds-headquartered firm’s academy programme is now open to applicants and will see SB&G recruit 25 graduates for a 12-month course starting in July.
As part of the programme, graduates will learn about SB&G’s methodologies towards product development, as well as improving their business skills by rotating jobs between the operator’s various departments. Graduates are guaranteed a job at the end of the course.
SB&G’s chief technology officer Andy Burton (pictured) said he was looking forward to the start of the programme as the operator looks to tap into a new pool of talent.
“Like many other tech companies in the region we are finding recruiting the right people increasingly difficult,” Burton said.
“By investing in graduates now we hope to play our part in ensuring there’s a pipeline of tech talent in Yorkshire,” he added.
The operator is also set to launch a similar graduate scheme in the coming weeks which will focus specifically on commercial rather than technology roles.
News of the launch comes as Ladbrokes today promised to recruit 300 apprentices this year to train in community engagement.
The apprentices will earn a retail NVQ and will follow in the footsteps of the 1,522 graduates the bookmaker has recruited since it launched the scheme in 2012.
Ladbrokes’ announcement comes ahead of Apprentice Week, which runs in the UK from 14 – 18 March.
