Sky Betting & Gaming eyes Malta licence for Germany launch
Leeds-based operator files official licence application ahead of a soft launch later this year
Sky Betting and Gaming (SB&G) has filed a formal application for a Malta sports betting licence as part of its preparation for launching in Germany later this year.
The news was announced by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) this morning and confirmed by the Leeds-headquartered operator to EGR Intel.
SB&G holds existing licences in the UK, Italy and Alderney and potential customers in Germany can sign up for updates on SkyBet.de ahead of a soft launch later this year.
“We are delighted that a prestigious operator and brand like Sky Bet applied for a license with the MGA,” Joseph Cuschieri, executive chairman of the MGA said.
“It is encouraging to see that Malta’s reputation as a gaming jurisdiction is recognised by world leading brands.
“The Authority is committed to addressing the ongoing evolution of the industry and its future challenges with integrity, transparency and a focus on consumer protection.
“The fact that Sky Bet applied for a licence in Malta is testimony to our reputation and encourages us to keep raising the bar in innovation, governance and thought leadership in gaming regulation”.
EGR understands the award will not affect SB&G’s Alderney licence.
The MGA said it has seen a 79% increase in licence applications in the first four months of the year, compared to 2016.
