Goldbet has triumphed in the Italian online betting rankings for December after raking in monthly gross gaming revenue (GGR) of €22.6m. The Gamenet-owned operator fought off stiff competition from fellow retail titan Sisal (€22m) after both benefited from land-based customers migrating online as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Snaitech (€20.7m), Eurobet (€20.1m) and SKS365 (€19.6m) rounded off the top five. Bet365 (€18m) remained in sixth position after being knocked off the top spot for the first time in November 2020.
The Stoke-headquartered bookmaker did top the ranks for full-year GGR however, recording 2020 revenue of €139.2m, narrowly ahead of Playtech-owned Snaitech (€132.1m). SKS365 (€117.6m), Eurobet (€112.2m), Sisal (€111.7m) and Goldbet (€101.5m) were the only bookmakers to achieve GGR of more than €100m, by some margin beyond closest competitor Lottomatica (€47.7m) in seventh place. A group of investors fronted by Apollo Global Management bought the Lottomatica B2C business for €950m in December in a move which could significantly alter these rankings in future months. Bet365 was the only operator to report online turnover in excess of €1bn for 2020, bringing in €1.95bn on a margin of 7.1%. Bet365 obtained nearly a quarter (23.5%) of market share as a percentage of online turnover for the full year, some distance ahead of Snaitech, which ended 2020 with 11% market share.
