Professional Players Federation inks partnership with GAMSTOP
Athletes organisation targets increased awareness of scheme via social media
The Professional Players Federation (PPF) has agreed an education and awareness partnership with UK national self-exclusion scheme GAMSTOP.
The partnership will see the PPF raise awareness of GAMSTOP across its website and social media, with the aim of signposting individuals experiencing gambling-related harm to the proper help and assistance.
It forms part of the PPF’s wider work to stop professional sportsmen and women from becoming at-risk gamblers.
“Professional athletes are at a higher risk of developing gambling problems than their peers outside of sport,” PPF CEO Simon Taylor said.
“We are therefore pleased to help promote GAMSTOP to make it easier for players that decide they want to self-exclude,” he added.
The PPF, which provides a forum for sporting bodies to collaborate on issues affecting sport, counts the League Managers Association and the Professional Footballers Association among its 13-strong membership.
It is a not-for-profit body funded by member associations, charitable donations and commercial sponsorship. It receives no government funding.
Membership of GAMSTOP became a mandatory requirement for all UK-licensed operators in March.
“We’re extremely excited to be able to work closely with the PPF and their members,” GAMSTOP CEO Fiona Palmer said.
“We welcome PPF’s commitment to protecting and educating those closest to sport who might be affected by problems with their gambling.
“This partnership will help ensure that all members have the practical tools and support around them to be protected and educated,” she added.
