Portugal market records double-digit growth on casino and sports betting strengths
Three new licences were awarded by the regulator during the period
Portugal’s online gambling market grew 47.4% year-on-year in Q2 with revenues of €37.3m and three more licenses awarded during the period.
According to numbers released by the Portuguese regulator (SRIJ), sports betting revenues rose 47% on the previous year to €20.5m.
Football betting accounted for 74% of sportsbook revenues thanks to an increase in activity during the World Cup.
Casino revenues were also up 47% to €16.8m with slots accounting for 55% of casino revenues and poker only 15%, despite shared liquidity with France and Spain launching in May.
New player sign-ups rose 157% year-on-year to 103,460.
In June, the regulator told EGR the number of international players participating in the shared poker pools was up to almost 2.5m.
In May the SRIJ closed the public consultation period of its gambling law review and in June said it was considering suggestions to lower the tax rate to allow for higher channelization.
