Poll: Will mobile tech innovations help drive revenues?
SkyBet's launch of TouchID and iBeacon-powered marketing drives have caught the imagination but will they deliver results?
Sky Betting & Gaming last week unveiled a number of technological innovations to its mobile portfolio in a bid to help drive customer engagement and, in turn, revenues.
The operator followed up the addition of TouchID to its mobile app with the launch of a trial of iBeacon technology at two English Football League stadiums, enabling it to send localised push notifications to SkyBet customers attending the match.
Andrew Walton, head of mobile at Sky Betting & Gaming, said the firm has received “overwhelmingly positive” feedback from customers to its TouchID login and that around 15,000 customers had signed up to the technology in its first day.
And other operators are expected to follow suit, with a number of innovations due at Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and William Hill’s mobile product suites and eGR understands Betfred is also plotting a geolocation powered push messaging service.
So with the mobile arms race seemingly heating up once more this week’s eGR poll asks whether technological innovations such as TouchID and iBeacon will indeed drive online gambling revenues, or whether they’re gimmicks that will have little material impact.
