Poll: Will GVC platform deal boost Betfred's online fortunes?
Betfred will swap its current GTECH platform for GVC's proprietary bwin technology
Betfred is to launch a new GVC-powered online sportsbook and gaming offering in arguably the biggest shake-up of the UK bookmaker’s digital business in its history.
This morning, the two firms announced a new 10-year deal which will see Betfred swap its current GTECH-provided platform for GVC’s proprietary bwin technology, including GVC’s back-end data tools.
Betfred’s migration to GVC’s proprietary technology platform could provide a major boost to the company’s online fortunes and enable the firm to expand internationally by entering a raft of new markets.
The current performance of Betfred’s online business is difficult to gauge, while on the retail side, there has been much talk in recent weeks as to whether it will scoop up some of the Ladbrokes and Coral shops the operators are expected to shed to complete the merger.
However, Betfred’s online business is estimated to be vastly smaller than many of its UK competitors and will be anxious to avoid a difficult migration which could see it fall further behind its rivals.
With this in mind, this week’s eGaming Review poll asks whether the GVC platform deal will significantly boost Betfred’s online fortunes?
