Poll: Which heavyweight operator will enjoy Premier League success?
With the new season about to kick-off, EGR asks which firm is best placed to capitalise
Following a profitable Euro 2016, in which both William Hill and Ladbrokes recorded margin of 22%, operators will be keen to ensure momentum is carried through into the new Premier League football season which kicks-off this Saturday.
While summer football tournaments provide a welcome boost to turnover and an opportunity to acquire new customers during an otherwise quiet period, the Premier League remains sportsbook operators’ bread and butter.
And the competition’s importance can be reflected in the efforts of operators to have their brand seen by as many football fans as possible, with a stream of marketing deals being rolled out over the past few weeks.
Bet365 has arguably gone boldest, snapping-up a Sky Sports sponsorship package – primarily the channel’s Friday Night and Monday Night Football coverage. The firm has also widened its agreement with Stoke City, which includes stadium naming rights.
William Hill has also been active and will continue to be headline sponsor of BT Sport’s Premier League coverage, while in addition has agreed betting partnership deals with Everton, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
Paddy Power Betfair will also be a force this season, attracting customers from both ends of the spectrum. Paddy Power’s strong social media presence will remain attractive to the younger recreation punter while Betfair’s new ad campaign is confirmation, if it was needed, that it will be targeting the more sophisticated bettor.
Meanwhile the soon-to-be merged Ladbrokes Coral will operate a dual-brand strategy and last week Jim Mullen said Ladbrokes had positioned itself as the go to football bookmaker both north and south of the border through its deals with the SPFL and the English FA.
With this in mind, this week’s EGR poll asks which UK sportsbook heavyweight is best positioned to enjoy Premier League success this season. Have your say on the right-hand side of the page.
