Poll results: PokerStars well placed for California licence
Almost two-thirds of respondents to this week's poll believe PokerStars will get a California licence after Amaya acquisition
PokerStars is well placed for an online poker licence in California should Amaya Gaming’s Rational Group acquisition complete as planned, according to respondents to this week’s eGaming Review poll.
Last week’s announcement that a $4.9bn deal had been agreed in principle for Amaya to acquire the owner of the PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker brands reignited the debate over whether or not the brand should be allowed back into the US market.
While general consensus is that the group should be fine for re-entry to New Jersey, California is less clear cut following the addition of a strict ‘bad actor’ provision to the latest poker Bill under discussion in the state.
And some of California’s most influential tribes seemingly remaining vehemently opposed to the brand entering the market.
However the majority of eGR readers have backed PokerStars’ chances of obtaining a licence, with 62% considering the departure of Isai and Mark Scheinberg from the group to be enough of a bargaining chip for Amaya to negotiate with.
