Poll results: Paddy Power Social faces uphill struggle
eGR readers sceptical whether new social sportsbook will succeed with almost half advising operator to concentrate on core products
Paddy Power’s real-money sports betting app on Facebook is set to struggle despite its recent revamp, according to a majority of eGaming Review readers.
The newly-named Paddy Power Social, exclusively revealed by eGR last week, has received a complete redesign, new social features and product logo.
The app overhaul comes as the Irish operator prepares for a potentially huge summer of sport with the FIFA World Cup in Brazil set to get underway in a month’s time.
But real-money gambling (RMG) on Facebook is as yet unproven with only the likes of Zynga, Gamesys, 888 and Bonza Gaming with RMG products on the social network.
And in this week’s poll we asked whether Paddy Power was on to a winner with its new RMG Facebook app.
Almost half (46%) of respondents said the Irish operator was fighting an uphill battle and should instead concentrate on its core sportsbook product in light of growing competition.
However, just 24% took the opposing view and stated the operator had made the correct choice in continuing its investment in the app.
The remaining 26% of readers were on the fence as to Paddy Power Social’s prospects and said it will take time for the app to achieve any meaningful success.
The result follows an eGR poll conducted earlier this year which found that an overwhelming number of respondents believe RMG launched through Facebook would struggle in 2014.
