Poll results: BetStars to fall short in UK
Majority of respondents to this week's poll believe PokerStars' sportsbook brand will fail to gain sufficient traction
PokerStars’ recently launched BetStars sportsbook brand will struggle to compete in the competitive UK online betting market, respondents to this week’s eGaming Review poll have said.
Last week eGR reported the operator was about to launch a ?10m marketing charm offensive in order to establish the brand in the UK and mainland Europe.
PokerStars had previously indicated the launch of its sportsbook would be primarily directed towards its current poker-playing customer base, however, news of the significant above the line marketing investment shows it has its eyes on a bigger prize.
But when asked if BetStars has what it takes to make a splash in the UK market, 59% of respondents said the brand would struggle to compete with the established operators.
However, it is worth noting the large majority of votes were cast ahead of yesterday’s news that BetStars had launched its innovative ‘Bet & Spin’ product, which gives customers the chance to multiply the odds of their selection by up to 10 times.
PokerStars previously indicated it had been readying a “game-changing” sportsbook product and the launch will have done little to dampen the enthusiasm of the 41% of readers who believe BetStars can wrestle away market share from the industry’s biggest players.
