Latest eGR poll shows readers believe Ladbrokes launch and Matchbook revamp will impact Betfair's market share
Following a number of new exchange launches in recent weeks, Betfair is now in danger of losing a proportion of its market share according to 70% of eGaming Review readers.
Earlier this month Ladbrokes launched its desktop-only betting exchange product in an attempt to provide a boost to its sportsbook performance.
Upon the launch, Ladbrokes described the exchange as a “one stop shop” for betting services and with a mobile launch also in the pipeline, the UK bookmaker appears confident its new product can compete with Betfair’s more established offering.
The launch of Ladbrokes Exchange was quickly followed by the release of Matchbook’s new website which the Cork-based company aims to make the world’s most liquid sports betting exchange in the next three years.
With these recent launches in mind, this week we asked eGR readers whether Betfair is now in danger of losing a significant proportion of market share to its new rivals?
It is currently estimated that Betfair controls 90% of the exchange market and the majority of respondents (70%) felt the launches will loosen its grip of on market but remained undecided as to by how much. According to 27% of readers, Betfair will surrender a significant portion of market share, whereas 43% believe the amount will be limited.
Meanwhile, 30% of readers were of the opinion that the launches with have little or no impact on Betfair’s number one market position.
