Poll: Can a universal self-exclusion scheme work?
Following news the UK regulator intends to roll out a universal self-exclusion scheme we ask if it could work
Last Friday eGaming Review revealed that the UK Gambling Commission is working with industry associations on a universal self-exclusion scheme for all of its remote gambling licensees.
The scheme would enable customers to effectively block themselves from betting online with all UK-facing online operators by self-excluding on just one site.
The policy stems from the government requesting the UK regulator review existing self-exclusion methods when the new Gambling (Licensing and Advertising) Bill passed through the House of Lords in its Report stage.
The policy’s aim is to strengthen player protection within the UK and significant progress towards a universal exclusion scheme is being sought within the next six months, however only the basic principle has been agreed upon to date.
A universal self-exclusion scheme that included each of the Commission’s licensees would require a considerable amount of coordination, and while it might sound good on paper, could it work in practise?
