Poll: Will Internet of Things gambling be the next big thing?
Paddy Power Betfair, GVC and Sky Bet are working on integrating betting services with virtual assistants and other smart devices, but will others follow suit?
Smart home and Internet of Things (IoT) technology is being explored by operators as the next potential egaming industry disruption but is it here to stay or just another industry fad?
Paddy Power Betfair launching its sports betting service on Amazon’s voice recognition devices in April opened the door for integrating gambling apps into other smart home devices including fridges and televisions.
Sky Betting & Gaming is also working on integrating its product with digital assistants, while GVC is developing its platform to service a whole variety of internet-ready devices.
However, some are sceptical of the impact of gambling on smart devices, particularly as Apple Watch betting services, launched by Ladbrokes Australia, Matchbook and William Hill never gained traction.
Shifting users to a new platform is also major concern for head of native development at Sky Bet, Andy Evans, who said it would be difficult to move users away from mobile devices.
With this in mind, this week we are asking whether Internet of Things gambling will be the next major industry shake-up?
