Poll results: The “WhatsApp of betting” will struggle to make an impact
Readers are yet to be convinced by social betting app Bet Blocks
A new app dubbed the “WhatsApp of betting” is unlikely to have a successful future in the egaming industry according to a majority of voters on this week’s poll.
Messaging app Bet Blocks integrates betting tools like odds comparisons and tips and previews, into a group messaging feed.
For example, if members of a group chat are discussing Chelsea to beat Everton, that text is converted into a link to Oddschecker’s comparison grid, with options to bet directly from the app.
The app also includes speak-to-bet functionality, group betting options (similar to Colossus Syndicates) and a stream of tipster recommendations to encourage activity.
But 56% of readers think that social betting app Bet Blocks will struggle to make an impact when it hits the Android store in late September.
Concerns presumably centred around the saturation of the sports betting market in the UK, and the difficulty of getting punters to shift their conversations from WhatsApp to a completely new tool.
Only 44% of voters agreed with Bet Blocks founder Jonny Robb that it was headed for success because it improved upon apps like WhatsApp that have become important to social betting.
