PokerStars to "experiment" with Apple TV launch
Poker giant one of the first online gaming operators to launch dedicated smart TV app
PokerStars has become one of the first egaming operators to launch a dedicated app for the Apple TV as the poker giant looks to “experiment” with the new platform.
The operator said its Apple TV app is still in the early stages of development, but is now available to download from the Apple App Store.
The app allows players to watch 24-hour poker broadcasts from PokerStars’ tournaments around the world.
And while not ruling out launching RMG or social gaming apps for Apple TV in the future, PokerStars spokesman Eric Hollreiser told eGR that scenario was “a bit premature” at this stage.
“Instead, we were looking for something focused, that we knew was well suited for the platform, which could be turned around fast, and at the same time still provide key learnings for us on how to develop for the tvOS ecosystem,” Hollreiser said.
“PokerStars.TV has been streaming to the laptops, mobiles, and tablets of poker fans for years now, attracting hundreds of thousands of viewers during peak time.
“We felt it was time we brought it to the TV in a format that is well positioned for the change already underway to how content is consumed via the set-top box,” he added.
The poker giant also announced it had deployed a new logo to “ensure a consistent appearnace” across its PokerStars, BetStars and StarsDraft brands.
